Dead Dad - Louw Venter
Award winning writer/performer, Louw Venter, returns to the stage with his new one-hander Dead Dad. The show is the sequel to his smash hit The Best Man’s Speech, which ran for years nation wide, was translated into Afrikaans as Strooijonker, and became the feature film Konfetti.
Directed by comedy legend Rob Van Vuuren, Dead Dad chronicles the spectacular demise of a hapless anti-hero attempting his father’s eulogy. Dead Dad is a rare chance to look grief in the eye, give it a good slap in the face, and celebrate life in all it’s wonky, imperfect glory. `
After a truly spectacular opening in the deep South the show has been warmly embraced by audiences night after night. The responses have truly surprised us. Not only were people in stitches, but many of them were deeply moved by the surprising emotional impact as they fell in love with the flawed but unquestionably relatable Lukas, as he navigates the hardest day of his life.
Here’s what they said:
“Brilliantly engaging, deeply touching and hilarious.” `“You were brilliant!”
“I proper cried.”
“True comedy only exists in the pathos of pain. And you did that.”
“Awesome performance! I was so blown away” Photo Credits: Gabriel Venter
